  • Andre return

Ruben Amorim has revealed Andre Onana will start for United tonight against Lyon.

The 29-year-old was labelled “one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history” by former player Nemanja Matic ahead of the first leg.

He went on to make two howlers, gifting the Ligue 1 side a 2-2 draw.

Onana was replaced by Altay Bayindir for the 4-1 loss to Newcastle on Sunday.

But Amorim confirmed the Cameroon international “will play” between the sticks tonight.

And Biancheri was spotted training with the first team on Wednesday.

Winning the trophy would put Ruben Amorim’s men in the Champions League next term.

But Maguire said: “From the start of the season we’ve been far too inconsistent…. It’s been a disappointing season, there’s no doubt about it.

“But this game is an important night for us in the competition, a big game at Old Trafford, a European night and one we’re looking forward to. It’s so important.

“If we do win the Europa League, it’s still going to be a disappointing season for us players, but winning that would be a big bonus

Playing for this club demands trophies and winning the Europa League would be a special one to win, of course.”

  • ‘Onana just one of many to go in summer’

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has put Andre Onana and several other players “on trial” ahead of a busy summer of transfer activity.

Amorim dropped Onana for Sunday’s Premier League loss at Newcastle and will make a decision on his future.

That’s according to The i Paper, who have reported that Man Utd have prioritised signing a new goalkeeper in the summer.

And whether that new arrival will be first choice or not depends on the Cameroon international’s performances between now and the end of the season.

Altay Bayindir, who conceded four goals as the 9-year-old’s replacement on Sunday, is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season in search of regular first-team football.

It’s claimed that Onana is just one of many players who could fall victim to a summer overhaul at the Theatre of Dreams, with very few senior players said to be safe.

  • Blackburn Roo-vers?

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is in line for a shock return to management just four months after being sacked by Plymouth Argyle.

Blackburn are reportedly considering Rooney as pressure mounts on current boss Valerien Ismael.

Ismael took over at Ewood Park after John Eustace surprisingly left the club to join Derby in February, but the Rovers have won just one of the Frenchman’s eight games in charge and they have slipped out the race for the play-offs.

According to talkSPORT, the 49-year-old tactician is under mounting pressure despite him signing a three-year contract just months ago.

Blackburn are already weighing up his replacement and Rooney is supposedly on the list of possible candidates for the job.

  • Maguire identifies key Utd weakness

Harry Maguire has blamed United stars for so many tight defeats.

The Red Devils defender said: “think there are key aspects in games where us players have got to take more responsibility and change them in our favour.

“There have been a lot of games that have been 50-50 and we’ve ended up on the bad end of a result.

“That’s something we do need to work on as a team, as a group of players.”

  • Red Devils vs Liverpool for Xavi?

Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to The Mail, United consider Simons as a major target amid manager Ruben Amorim’s bid to boost his attack

However, the playmaker is valued at around £67million and the Red Devils face competition from rivals Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Man Utd are said to have maintained contact with the Netherlands international.

  • Cesc backs Gyokeres

Cesc Fabregas disagrees with fellow ex-Gunner William Gallas over reported Arsenal and Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres.

Fabregas believes the Sporting Lisbon hero is rightly rated as a potential top striker in the Prem.

But Gallas wonders if the Swede could cope with the extra pressure.

Fabregas told Amazon Prime: “Yeah, he could be an option, 100 per cent.

‘But at least a top team like Arsenal are competing for the top level that Mikel (Arteta) wants.

“As he’s said now, it’s not about being here [at a certain level], it’s about winning, I think, for the next step.”

  • Seven heaven

Manchester United are set to enter a brand-new seven-a-side women’s football tournament which could see them pocket a huge prize, writes EMILLIA HAWKINS.

As announced last month, the inaugural World Sevens Football (W7F) event will take place in Portugal at the end of May – just weeks before the start of Euro 2025.

    image

Organisers have made a commitment to invest £77million ($100m) across a five-year period, with the winners receiving £1.9m.

And the Telegraph report that Man Utd will be one of the eight teams battling it out for the huge prize.

Bayern Munich are also expected to be involved.

It will be up to each club to decide which players they take to Portugal for the tournament.

  • Rashford future ‘difficult to plan’

Aston Villa chief Unai Emery believes Marcus Rashford’s future is still up in the air after Aston Villa’s Champions League exit.

PSG KO’d Villa – with Emery praising his loanee striker form Manchester United.

The ex-Arsenal boss said: “It is difficult to plan it now.

“He is feeling better, and he played a fantastic match. We are very happy.

“If he is happy, we are happy. It depends on the circumstances for now and the next weeks.”

  • ‘Arsenal & Utd target Gyokeres may struggle in Prem’

Prime Prem target Viktor Gyokeres could be a risky big-money buy.

That’s the verdict of ex-Arsenal defender William Gallas on the ex- Sporting Lisbon striker.

    image

The Gunners have been the main English club linked with the Swede, but Manchester United and Chelsea have also been mentioned.

He’s notched 31 goals and assists in only 28 Portuguese top-flight games this season.

But Gallas told Slingo: “It could be completely different for him in the Premier League, it will be a big change.

‘Can Gyokeres adapt to the Premier League? That is the question. He is 26 years old, I don’t know if he can be one of the best strikers in Europe. If he comes to Arsenal, it will be another level of pressure for him.

‘It happens a lot when a player is doing really well at a smaller club, then they crumble at a bigger club.

“Gyokeres will have a level of responsibility he has never had in his career if he were to join Arsenal.”

  • Yoro calm after Thierry jibe

Manchester United ace Leny Yoro has broken his silence after coming in for criticism from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry during a controversial segment of analysis on Monday Night Football.

Yoro was in Henry’s firing line as the France great called him out for instinctively looking to the linesman after Harvey Barnes’ second goal in Newcastle’s 4-1 thrashing of United on Sunday.

The legendary forward claimed he’d “never seen that before”, and impersonated the centre-back’s glance to the official live in the Sky Sports studio.

A video of the analysis shared on Twitter led to widespread criticism of the Barcelona hero for “nonsense” and “pathetic” analysis – the clip has since been removed by Sky Sports.

And now Yoro has posted on social media himself for the first time since the controversy.

The France international took to Instagram to post a photo of himself looking dejected after the defeat to the Magpies alongside a bible passage.

It read: “Do not be anxious about anything, but always ask God for what you need. And when you pray, ask for it with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6.”

  • Harry’s ’50-50′ blast at United

Harry Maguire has blamed United stars for so many tight defeats.

The Red Devils defender said: “think there are key aspects in games where us players have got to take more responsibility and change them in our favour.

“There have been a lot of games that have been 50-50 and we’ve ended up on the bad end of a result.

“That’s something we do need to work on as a team, as a group of players.”

  • Maguire’s stark confession

Harry Maguire believes even Europa League glory wouldn’t save Manchester United’s season.

United hope to book a semi-final spot tomorrow night when they host Lyon level at 2-2 from the first leg.

  • Young Cheri picked for Utd training

Manchester United teenager Gabriele Biancheri joined Ruben Amorim’s first team training earlier today.

The Red Devils boss, 40, was preparing his side for Thursday night’s crucial Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon.

    image

Man Utd will go into the match without Joshua Zirkzee, after the forward was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring issue.

Rasmus Hojlund is the only senior centre-forward available to Amorim for tomorrow night’s crunch clash with Lyon.

Biancheri, 18, signed from Cardiff in February 2023 and this season has netted 20 goals in 30 games across the PL2, Under-18 Premier League, Uefa Youth League, FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy.

The Welshman is not part of Man Utd’s 25-man squad for the Europa League. But he is eligible to be added to the club’s B List and thus be available to play tomorrow night.

    image

To be added to the B List, a player must have been born on or later than January 1, 2003 – and have been at the club for two or more uninterrupted years.

But fellow striker Chido Obi is not eligible. The forward has made four first team appearances for United but only joined from Arsenal last September, so does not hit the B List criteria.

  • Less Old Trafford

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton and fellow veteran Jonny Evans are expected to exit Manchester United this summer.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims the duo will be let go as boss Ruben Amorim revamps his squad.
