Magic outlast Heat in pulsating Puerto Rico preseason battle

The Orlando Magic claimed a 126-118 victory over the Miami Heat in a back-and-forth preseason contest at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan on Saturday. Tristan da Silva led the Magic with 12 points, including two threes, while contributing three rebounds in 15 minutes.

Miami jumped to a 29-21 first-quarter lead behind Andrew Wiggins’ 11 points and Nikola Jovic’s early dunks. Orlando responded in the second, narrowing the gap to single digits before the Heat carried a 61-50 halftime edge on Bam Adebayo’s free throws and Dru Smith’s transition scoring.

The third quarter featured nine ties and multiple lead changes, with Jase Richardson’s three threes helping the Magic erase a 13-point deficit. Orlando closed the period on a 10-3 run, trailing 93-90 after Jett Howard’s layup and a steal sequence.

In the fourth, Reece Beekman sparked a 17-5 surge with nine points, including a step-back jumper and free throws that pushed the lead to seven. Alex Morales added nine points off the bench, sealing the win with a tip-in layup and fadeaway in the final minutes.

The game saw 19 lead changes overall, underscoring the defensive intensity with Orlando’s nine blocks outpacing Miami’s five. Both teams committed 18 turnovers, but the Magic converted theirs into 20 points while dominating the paint 58-46.

Wendell Carter Jr. notched 10 points and five rebounds for Orlando, anchoring the interior with two blocks. Desmond Bane contributed nine points and three assists in limited action before resting.

On the Miami side, Trevor Keels erupted for 12 points in the fourth, including two threes off Jahmir Young’s passes. Myron Gardner tallied 10 points and six assists, though six personal fouls limited his impact.

Paolo Banchero recorded seven points and three blocks in 13 minutes for the Magic starters. Jaime Jaquez Jr. added six points for the Heat, focusing on drives amid the choppy flow.

Orlando shot 45.9% from the field and 74.2% from the line, making 23 of 31 attempts. Miami connected on 48.3% of threes but faltered late, hitting just 25 points in the final frame.

The Magic grabbed 58 total rebounds, including 22 offensive boards that fueled second-chance points.
