The Orlando Magic have agreed to sign free agent guard Jevon Carter for the remainder of the season, according to NBA insider Shams Charania, who reported that Carter’s representatives Mark Bartelstein and Reggie Brown confirmed the deal to ESPN.
The move comes days after the Chicago Bulls waived the veteran to open a roster spot following a three-team trade involving Dario Saric.
Orlando adds a perimeter specialist who shot 41 percent from three-point range this season with Chicago, addressing spacing needs around its primary creators. Carter averaged 5.4 points in 23 games during the 2025-26 campaign while providing defensive pressure at the point of attack.
Adding another high-volume shooter could create more driving lanes for Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, who combine for more than 43 points per night.
Carter’s career averages of 5.2 points and 1.5 assists highlight a role built around defense, spot-up shooting, and quick decision-making rather than heavy playmaking.
Chicago waived the 30-year-old on February 1 to create room for Saric after a multi-team trade that included the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings. The transaction allowed Carter to explore playoff-level opportunities, and Orlando currently sits seventh in the Eastern Conference at 26-24, positioning itself in the play-in race.
