The Sixers could add up to two players from the buyout market, with Chris Boucher, Lonzo Ball, and Haywood Highsmith listed as potential targets, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Pompey also mentions Khris Middleton as a possibility if he reaches a buyout with Dallas.
Philadelphia will open two roster spots once the 10-day contracts of Charles Bassey and Patrick Baldwin Jr. expire Saturday.
The team may also gain temporary flexibility by moving Paul George, who has served five games of his 25-game suspension, to the suspended list until his return in late March.
Financially, the Sixers sit $1.57MM below the luxury tax and $3.75MM under the first apron, allowing them to sign two rest-of-season minimum contracts without entering the tax, per Pompey.
Boucher and Ball were waived by Utah on Thursday after being acquired in trades.
Boucher, 33, played just nine games with Boston and previously spent five seasons under Nick Nurse in Toronto. Ball, 28, appeared in 35 games for Cleveland and could help address backcourt depth following recent trades.
Highsmith, 29, was waived by Brooklyn and is nearing a return from meniscus surgery. He has drawn interest from multiple playoff teams and previously spent time with the Sixers as a two-way player.
Pompey adds that Philadelphia could also convert Jabari Walker to a standard contract after he reached his two-way game limit last week.
“He’s been a tremendous next man up type contributor,” Daryl Morey said. “We hope to have his services going forward, but we do have to weigh optimal use of our sort of scarce two roster spots, and against the other opportunities as well. So that’ll be written over time, whether or not we do that conversion there.”
