LeBron James has officially and completely ruled out any chance of playing in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, a Games that would take place when he is 43 years old, per RealGM.
Stephen Curry, however, isn’t closing the door entirely, even though he would be 40 by then. The two future Hall of Famers touched on the topic while talking together on their recent podcast episode.
When asked about the possibility of suiting up for Team USA again, James made his stance crystal clear.
“You already know my answer,” he said. “I will be watching it.”
James has represented the United States in four separate Olympic tournaments, earning gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2024 while helping build one of the most decorated international résumés in basketball history.
Curry, who finally made his Olympic debut in 2024 and played a significant role in securing another gold medal for the United States under then–head coach Steve Kerr, took a more open-ended approach.
While he admitted the odds are low, he hasn’t completely ruled out a return.
“God willing, I still have the choice and physical option where I could impact the team,” Curry said. “Never say never, but I highly doubt it. Highly doubt it.”
Looking ahead, the U.S. program will be entering a new era. Erik Spoelstra has taken over for Kerr as the head coach for the upcoming international cycle, including the 2028 Games.
Whether Curry ultimately considers another Olympic run, Spoelstra would be the one overseeing that roster.
