Landry Shamet delivered the best scoring performance of his NBA career in the Knicks’ victory over the Heat, a win that also marked the team’s first triumph of the NBA Cup group stage.

His breakout night felt like a personal payoff for the work he put in to remain with New York during the offseason, writes Jared Schwartz of the New York Post.

“This is where I wanted to be,” Shamet said after the game. “With the year we had last year, this group of guys, this locker room, this city, these fans, all of it, I only wanted to be here, to be honest. I’m glad it worked out.”

Shamet has now started three games this season and appears to be head coach Mike Brown’s preferred option in the starting lineup when Mitchell Robinson is unavailable.

Brown has long believed Shamet’s offensive skill set could make a difference.

“Is he shooting the pull-up, which he can make, or is he getting to the rim and dunking on you?” the coach said. “You could see that on film last year, and so I was definitely a fan of his.”
