Knicks pull away from Lakers at MSG as Anunoby, Shamet fuel sixth straight win

The New York Knicks continued their surge Sunday night, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 112-100 at Madison Square Garden in a nationally spotlighted matchup.

OG Anunoby scored a team-high 25 points and Landry Shamet added 23 off the bench, as New York matched a season high with its sixth consecutive victory.

Josh Hart contributed 20 points on efficient shooting, while Jalen Brunson finished with 12 points and a season-high 13 assists to steer the offense.

The Knicks took control after halftime, outscoring Los Angeles 38-26 in the third quarter to turn a tight contest into a double-digit lead.

A 15-5 run late in the period, capped by three-pointers from Shamet, Brunson, and Anunoby, sent New York into the fourth quarter ahead 90-82.

Karl-Anthony Towns posted 11 points and 13 rebounds after being named an All-Star reserve earlier in the day, anchoring the interior on both ends.

New York shot 47 percent from the field and knocked down 18 of 42 attempts from beyond the arc, while assisting on 30 of its 43 made baskets.

The Lakers were led by Luka Doncic, who recorded 30 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists. LeBron James finished with 22 points, six assists, and five rebounds in his 32nd regular-season game at the venue, falling to 23-9 at MSG.

James was named an All-Star reserve earlier Sunday, marking his NBA-record 22nd consecutive All-Star selection.

Los Angeles shot 45 percent overall but struggled from three-point range, hitting just 12 of 42 attempts and managing 21 assists as a team.

New York improved to 31-18, holding second place in the Eastern Conference and continuing a stretch of wins that has largely come by comfortable margins.

The Lakers dropped to 29-19, remaining sixth in the Western Conference after a night defined by third-quarter breakdowns.

Los Angeles will continue its road swing at Brooklyn on Tuesday night, while the Knicks travel to Washington to face the Wizards.
