The New York Knicks have officially named Mike Brown as their head coach for the 2025-26 NBA season, replacing Tom Thibodeau after five years. The team’s players are reportedly “ecstatic” about the hire, according to NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson on The Basketball Society Podcast.

Several Knicks players, including Jaylen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, are familiar with Brown either from previous matchups or watching him coach in the Western Conference.

“They either know Mike Brown, have watched Mike Brown coach for years, or have played against him… so they felt as though they needed somebody less rigid and more methodical,” Robinson added.

Brown’s experience with the Golden State Warriors and time under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio has further refined his methodology.

“Mike Brown got a fresh perspective on things when he spent some time in San Antonio with Pop after burnout with the Cavs and then seeing success in Golden State with the Warriors on the bench,” Robinson explained.

The Knicks roster features Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Jalen Brunson, Malcolm Brogdon, and Towns. Recent acquisitions Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele strengthen the bench, providing depth and versatility.
