Knicks defeat 76ers in Abu Dhabi preseason matchup

The New York Knicks secured a 113-104 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in their preseason matchup at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on October 4.

Jalen Brunson paced the Knicks with 14 points, including a late-second-quarter layup that pushed the lead to 13 at halftime.

Mikal Bridges contributed 10 points and two blocks, while OG Anunoby added 13 points with efficient shooting from beyond the arc.

The Knicks jumped out to a 32-23 first-quarter lead behind strong defense that forced seven turnovers from Philadelphia.

Mitchell Robinson grabbed eight rebounds and scored six points, anchoring the paint where New York outscored the 76ers 44-42 in points in the paint.

Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with 16 points, hitting three threes but committing three turnovers in a choppy start. Kelly Oubre Jr. followed with 13 points, including a third-quarter three that briefly cut the deficit to single digits.

The game featured just one lead change and one tie early on, with New York maintaining control after Anunoby’s technical free throw knotted it at 5-5.

Philadelphia mounted a fourth-quarter push, closing to within four at 109-105 on Malcolm Hill’s putback layup with under two minutes left.

Trey Jemison III sealed the win for the Knicks with a 15-foot jumper in the final seconds, finishing with seven points off the bench.

New York’s bench outscored Philadelphia’s 64-57, highlighted by Jordan Clarkson’s seven points and Malcolm Brogdon’s five.

The Knicks shot 44.7% from the field and 75.8% from the line, converting 25 of 33 free throws.

Philadelphia connected on 36.4% of threes but struggled with 19 turnovers, leading to 24 points off those miscues for New York.

Blocks were plentiful, with the Knicks tallying four and the 76ers six, including two from Adem Bona in the second quarter.

Karl-Anthony Towns added six points and three rebounds in limited minutes, showing early chemistry with Brunson. Rookie VJ Edgecombe scored 10 for Philadelphia, including a first-quarter dunk off Maxey’s assist.

Andre Drummond pulled down 11 rebounds for the 76ers, but fouled out late in the contest. Kennedy Chandler erupted for 15 points in the fourth, fueling Philly’s late rally with three free throws.

The Knicks’ depth shone through, with 10 players scoring at least two points in a balanced attack. New York forced 19 turnovers total, converting them into fast-break opportunities worth 19 points.

This preseason battle highlighted defensive intensity, with 22 combined steals across both teams.
