Kevin Durant spoke candidly about Kawhi Leonard’s performance in Houston’s 105-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. “Yeah, he’s a shot maker. He can make shots from all over the floor… he’s just patient out there. One of the greatest all time,” Durant said.

Durant also praised his teammate Jabari Smith Jr., noting his recent consistency. “His poise, his patience… he’s taking great shots, shooting great shots, knocking them down, playing with confidence, and then just being aggressive on the boards.”

On the team’s approach entering the All-Star break, Durant emphasized focusing on daily improvement rather than expectations. “I had no expectations for anything… I try to just take it a day at a time and truly assess what we’re doing out there to get better,” he explained.

Durant reflected on Houston’s turnovers against the Clippers’ defensive schemes. “I feel like they’re selling out to stop some of my actions, especially the pick and roll… they are leaving their guys in the corner running to. It’s basically an extra man guarding the pick and roll,” he said.

The veteran shared his process for guiding younger players. “Don’t think about anything but your break and enjoying yourself… it’s good that you can take your mind off the game, recalibrate, refocus, not put too much pressure on yourself, and come back after the break.”

Durant also highlighted the need for consistency across games. “We’ve given up a few games… stretches where we weren’t shooting the ball well, stretches where we turned the ball over. Our consistency can always get better,” he said.

Discussing offensive adjustments, Durant explained how Houston could improve late-game execution. “I think we can simplify a little more… play a little quicker earlier in the clock. Quick actions, get two on the ball, and we get it rolling from there.”

Reflecting on his own career perspective, Durant shared how managing expectations evolved over time. “When you put huge expectations on anything, it’ll never meet your standards… you just focus on bringing what you bring to the table and helping your teammates out as much as possible.”

Durant led Houston with 21 points and six assists, but 21 turnovers limited the Rockets’ ability to capitalize on a 45-32 rebounding advantage. His remarks underline the importance of consistency, process, and decision-making as Houston heads into the All-Star break.
