Kevin Durant fires back after someone claims he discredits defense in winning championships.
After the release of Starting 5 Season 2 on Netflix, many fans posted clips about NBA stars’ perspectives and approaches to the game, including Durant’s take, which is that he values offense more than defense.
As the two-time NBA champion answered, the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder has been used as an example in an argument where defensive players, such as Lou Dort and Alex Caruso, also became offensive players as they worked on their game.
“Those guys make open shots!! Not all defense, u saying everything I’m saying bro. Dort started showing more of his offensive bag last year, his shotmaking enhanced his defense. Same with Caruso, became more of a playmaker and shot maker, and look at how he’s taken off. He won them a finals game with his offense!! I ain’t saying they need to be iso savants,” Durant said on X.
Durant also noted that the Thunder were built primarily on offense, aside from their defensive players, which became a liability for opponents to defend against.
“Isiah Joe, Wiggins, Chet, Shai and Jdub I would say are offensive players who guard..Hartenstein, Dort, Caruso and Wallace are more defense than offense but have showed they can make shots and not be total liabilities on that end. U can’t leave them wide open,” he added.
The four-time NBA scoring champion admits that he has a habit of responding to fans and haters on postings regarding him on X, formerly Twitter, via the Starting 5.
