It was a disappointing day for the three Kerry sides at the National Inter-Club Finals in Fermoy last Saturday as neither of the two Deerpark teams or the Tralee side managed to make it through to the semi-finals as the Singles proved to be the downfall of the Kerry sides in the main in the 16-team event.

The Deerpark 1 side of Damien Fleming, John McGrath, James Fleming, Con O’Sullivan Jnr. Colm O’Dowd and James Foley were a combined 18 under par for their Scotch Foursomes and Singles rounds but missed out on a semi-final place by four shots in having to settle for seventh.

Both the Deerpark 2 and Tralee 1 sides finished on 13 under par combined meanwhile in finishing 10th and 11th respectively. Deerpark 2 were made up of Cillian Courtney, Michael Cronin, Noel Moynihan, Mark O’Shea, Paddy Murphy and David Harnett while Tralee were represented by Jason Cregan, Michael Conway, Reece Sugrue, Michael Creagh, Alan O’Connor and Gavin Dillane.

There was better news at the Crosshaven U16 Scratch Cup however as Deerpark’s Fionn McMonagle won the 8-13 section while his club-mate Aodhan O’Halloran was third in the same section. The County Board would also like to congratulate the Deerpark trio of Connie O’Sullivan Jnr, Derry O’Sullivan and Paddy Murphy on their recent win in the Kildare Short Grass Classic Scramble.

The season itself now has only two fixtures of Kerry interest left, the National Scotch Foursomes Finals on the October Bank Holiday Weekend and the Inter-Provincial Challenge on the first Saturday in November.

The County Board are invited interested members from Kerry clubs to a meeting on October 22nd at 8pm in the Tralee clubhouse to discuss the Kerry Inter-County teams for next year.
