Home advantage told true for Tralee in so many different ways in their hosting of the National Scotch Foursomes events last weekend as both the Cups on offer went the club’s way amongst many other prizes.
Saturday’s Mixed event was all about husband and wife Jason & Bernadette O’Regan as they combined for a total of 93 points, the same total as club-mates Tony Blake & Lisa O’Connor but a better Back 18 of 47 points for Jason & Bernadette as opposed to 46 for Tony & Lisa gave them the win. For Jason it was his first National Adult gold medal since his win as part of the Kerry U16 team back in 1990 and it comes after a silver medal in the National Strokeplay and numerous bronze medals in the National Matchplay throughout the years.
Brother and sister Jamie & Charlotte Blake won the First Session prize in Saturday’s event as well with 88 points as Sunday was even better from both a Tralee and Kerry point of view. Dan O’Leary and Eddie Sheehy set the target from Sunday morning’s session in the Non-Mixed event with 94 points as they were only bettered in the second session by club-mates John O’Regan & Noel Lee with a score of 95 points which included a brilliant Second 18 of 50 points for the winning pair. Tony Blake & Dairis Liepins made it a 1-2-3 for the club in Nett standings as a total of six of the seven prizes on offer last Sunday went to Kerry.
County Board Chairman and Secretary Damien Fleming and Jason Cregan shot 21 under par for 93 points in winning the Gross prize as Tralee’s Jamie Blake & Michael Conway won the First Session prize with 91 points and Deerpark duo Ciara Lowe & Eileen McCarthy won the Ladies prize with a score of 81 points. Congratulations to all the winning pairs from the weekend especially Jason & Bernadette along with John & Noel on their wins in both events. Well done to Tralee as a club on the hosting of the weekend itself though.
We are now down to the final weekends of the season as following a large group of Kerry players heading to Barcelona this weekend for the Catalan International Pairs event, the season with conclude with Deerpark’s participation in the National Inter-Club Finals weekend alongside one final Pitch & Putt Ireland ranking event for the year.
The County Board wishes the Kerry players travelling to Barcelona this weekend the best of luck and a safe journey.
