Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson believes that Sam Merrill is one of the best three-point shooters he’s ever coached in the NBA (44.4% 3-PT through twelve games played).

“He’s right there. He is right there. Let’s leave Steph [Curry] out of this one cuz Steph’s a different… he’s got all the off the dribble. But just pure catch-and-shoot: Sam Merrill, [Kyle] Korver — I’ll put him in the same, you know, those type of guys. He reminds me (of) when we had Joe Harris in Brooklyn: he’s starting to get downhill a little bit cuz they’re chasing him all the time.
“He’s starting to get a little bit of a paint game, which I’m thrilled about, right? I think everyone thought, ‘He’s got more in him.’ Is he gonna be at the rim 10 times? But if he can get to the rim twice, he can hit one of those mid-range when they chase him into the two-point areas. Those are kinda playoff plays to me. So the shooting’s great, but I love (how) he’s kinda expanding his game.”
