
Kenmare Shamrocks have qualified for the ¼ finals of the Garvey’s Supervalu County Senior Football Championship.
The opener of a double header at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney saw they beat West Kerry 4-18 to 1-12.
An 8th minute goal from Maurice O’Connell had West Kerry in front by 1-0 to 0-1. Kenmare responded with a goal of their own-through Paul O’Connor-to edge ahead 1-2 to 1-1 after 14 minutes. Within a minute Sean O’Shea goaled for Kenmare. Donal O’Sullivan got another Kenmare goal in the 16th minute. They now led by double scores at 3-1 to 1-2. It was 3-4 to 1-3 seven minutes out from half-time. Kenmare led 3-7 to 1-3 at the break.
Kenmare remained in charge, opening up a 3-11 to 1-5 lead. Jack Tagney added a 4th goal for Kenmare with 13 minutes to go to make it 4-12 to 1-7. It was double scores at the finish.
Also at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney An Ghaeltacht defeated Templenoe 1-14 to 0-15 after extra time.
It was a point apiece after 8 minutes. An Ghaeltacht had 2 points in the 20th minute to go 2 in front. Templenoe halved that deficit. Back to back points put Templenoe in front at 4-3 after 25 minutes. An Ghaelacht equalised in the closing minute and it was 4 all at the break.
An Ghaeltacht led 6 points to 5 after 5 minutes of the second half. Templenoe then equalised. Templenoe were ahead by 8 points to 7 entering the final quarter. It was 8 all with 10 to go, before Templenoe nudged a point in front. John Spillane doubled the advantage. A 2 pointer drew the game level with 2 minutes to go. That forced extra-time.
At half time in extra time it was Templenoe who led 13 points to 12. They quickly doubled that advantage upon the resumption. That deficit was cut in half. Templenoe were 1 to the good heading into the final minute when Cian MacGearilt goaled for An Ghaelacht. That made it 1-14 to 0-15 and that’s how it finished.
In Tralee’s Austin Stack Park North Kerry beat Na Gaeil 2-16 to 0-11.
North Kerry led 2 points to 1 after 6 minutes, and 3 to 2 thirteen minutes in. North Kerry were ahead by double scores after the first quarter; 4 points to 2. It was 6 to 5 for North Kerry after 23 minutes. A Liam Cooper free in the 29th minute followed by a Diarmuid O’Connor point meant Ha Gaeil claimed a 7 points to 6 half time lead.
North Kerry had 3 of the first 4 points of the second half to go into a 9-8 lead. A North Kerry goal followed for Eddie Healy, with a further point making it 1-10 to 0-8 after 42 minutes. Na Gaeil hit back with a 2 pointer. Another North Kerry goal-again scored by Eddie Healy-opened up a 5 point lead at 2-10 to 0-11 after 16 minutes of the second half. North Kerry stayed on top, winning in the end by 2-16 to 0-11.
