Katie Taylor will face Flora Pili at Croke Park in Dublin on September 5 for the vacant WBC super lightweight title in the final fight of her decorated career.
Taylor has not been in action since she retained her undisputed title after edging a trilogy fight against Amanda Serrano in New York last July.
The 39-year-old, who won Olympic gold at London 2012, had announced in February she intended to end her “amazing journey” back on home soil, with the 82,000-capacity Dublin venue confirmed on Friday for a showdown with unbeaten French fighter Pili.
Taylor currently holds the IBF, WBA and WBO titles, with IBO champion Pili, 29, now the mandatory challenger for the IBF belt as well as top-ranked contender for the WBC crown, which became vacant because holder Sandy Ryan stepped away from the sport as she is pregnant.
Having vacated the WBC belt herself in 2025 when she took an extended break from boxing, Taylor – who is defending a 25-1 record – now has the chance to end her career with all of the titles back in in her grasp.
“I can’t thank the people of this country enough for the support I have received over the years. This seems like the perfect way to end it,” Taylor said in a press statement before speaking to the media at Croke Park.
“People have travelled all around the world to follow my career and I’m hoping I can repay some of that with a big performance on September 5.
“I’m under no illusions that Flora will present a very tough challenge. She’s undefeated as a professional and I have the utmost respect for her.
“I’ve been blessed to achieve more than I ever dreamed. I hope (it) will inspire a whole new generation. That would be the greatest legacy I could leave.”
