Karl-Anthony Towns poured in 31 of his 39 points before halftime in the Knicks’ win over the Heat, a performance that reminded New York he can serve as the primary offensive option while Jalen Brunson remains out with an ankle sprain, writes Jared Schwartz of the New York Post.

Towns slowed down in the second half as Miami ramped up its double-teams, but his early scoring outburst created the momentum the Knicks needed, and he then shifted into a more patient role while teammates Landry Shamet, Jordan Clarkson and Josh Hart took advantage of Miami’s defense being locked in on him.

“I wanted to do my best to pick up the offense that [Brunson] gives our team,” Towns said after the game. “And in the first half, I did a good job of that. In the second half, I wasn’t trying to force it. I’ve had those days, so I was just letting the game come to me and Landry Shamet is a big reason [for that].”
