Jordan Poole has been diagnosed with a mild strain in his left quadriceps and will be reevaluated in seven to ten days, according to an announcement from the New Orleans Pelicans.
The injury was discovered after Poole missed Wednesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, which followed a 27-minute outing the night before against Charlotte.
Initially listed out due to soreness in his left knee, further testing revealed that the discomfort was actually stemming from the quad strain.
The 26-year-old guard has been off to a solid start in his first season with New Orleans after being traded from Washington during the offseason. So far, he’s averaging 17.3 points and 3.4 assists across seven games.
However, Poole has recently hit a shooting slump, connecting on just 5 of his last 25 attempts over his previous two appearances.
With Poole sidelined, Saddiq Bey was moved into the starting lineup on Wednesday and may continue in that role until Poole returns.
Jose Alvarado and rookie Jordan Hawkins also logged increased minutes as the Pelicans adjusted their rotation.
Looking ahead, New Orleans faces a busy schedule with upcoming games against San Antonio on Saturday, Phoenix on Monday, Portland on Wednesday, and the Lakers next Friday.
If Poole’s reevaluation goes well, he could return without missing a significant stretch of games.
The Pelicans are already dealing with another key injury, as Zion Williamson remains out with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain.
Despite their early struggles and an 0-6 start to the season, the team has found momentum recently, winning back-to-back games as they work to climb back into contention.
