Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga twisted his left ankle and hyperextended his left knee during a second-quarter drive Thursday night against the Dallas Mavericks, adding uncertainty with the trade deadline two weeks away.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the player’s frustration with the organization persists, along with his desire to be traded in the near future.

The Warriors ruled Kuminga out with knee soreness, though a league source told ESPN that neither injury is believed to be serious after initial testing.

The setback came shortly after Kuminga returned to the rotation Tuesday, following a trade request last week.

Kuminga scored 10 points in nine minutes against Dallas and was plus-18 on the floor while helping spark a first-half comeback.

His night ended after he was fouled on a drive, made both free throws, briefly tried to continue playing, then exited to the locker room with a trainer.

The 23-year-old had not played in 16 straight games prior to this week.

Head coach Steve Kerr turned to Kuminga again Tuesday after Jimmy Butler III suffered a torn ACL, and Kuminga responded with 20 points in 21 minutes off the bench.

Despite his talent, Kuminga has been used inconsistently since being drafted seventh overall in 2021, and his uncertain role has become a major storyline as the deadline approaches.
