Brooklyn Nets governor Joe Tsai recently appeared on the All-In podcast and provided a clear and direct look into the franchise’s outlook for the upcoming season.

When asked about expectations, Tsai didn’t shy away from the reality of the situation.

“I have to say we’re in a rebuilding year,” he admitted.

He noted that the team invested heavily in the 2025 NBA Draft, saying, “We spent all of our pick. We had five first-round draft picks this past summer.”

That aggressive draft approach signaled a shift toward youth and long-term development rather than immediate contention.

Looking ahead, Tsai pointed to the 2026 NBA Draft as a key factor in shaping the direction of the season.

“We have one (first-round) pick in 2026, and we hope to get a good pick,” he said.

With that in mind, he hinted strongly at the team’s approach.

“So, you can predict what kind of strategy we will use for this season. But we have a very young team.”

The franchise’s draft situation becomes even more complex in the years that follow. In 2027, the Houston Rockets hold the right to swap first-round picks with Brooklyn.

From 2028 to 2032, the Nets will either retain their own picks or receive the most favorable selections through swap agreements they control.

Additionally, Brooklyn still has incoming first-round assets from multiple teams – the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers (via a most-favorable swap clause), and the Denver Nuggets.
