The Golden State Warriors may enter the playoffs as the Western Conference’s No. 7 seed, but don’t let the seeding fool you – their championship pedigree still commands immense respect.
Oddsmakers have them favored over the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets, largely because of the stark contrast in postseason experience.
While Houston boasts rising stars, the Warriors come armed with proven veterans like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who have a combined four titles and countless playoff battles under their belts.
Newcomer Jimmy Butler, who himself has played in two NBA Finals, fully embraces the weight of expectations that come with being part of this storied franchise.
He recognizes that Golden State’s playoff-tested core draws the spotlight – and the pressure – but it’s a role he not only accepts, but relishes.
“I love having a target on my back,” Butler told Sam Amick of The Athletic.
“I think I’ve had it the last couple of years over in the East, and (the Warriors) are gonna always have it, until 30 (Curry) and 23 (Green) are gone out this motherf—er. They’re always gonna be the squad to beat. Everybody always fears them. Everybody always knows that they’re not out of any game, out of any series, and I love to be a part of it. I ain’t scared of nobody. You know me. I’m not scared of nobody. I know what I’m capable of.”
The clutch performer’s not daunted by the pressure or the expectations that come with the Warriors’ legacy – instead, he thrives on it.
For Butler, joining this team isn’t just about chasing his first championship; it’s about stepping into the fire with players who’ve already earned their place in history, and proving he belongs right there with them.
