Jake LaRavia is beginning a new chapter in Los Angeles, and the 23-year-old forward is already recognizing what makes the Lakers unlike any other organization he has been part of.
In an interview reported by Lakers Nation, LaRavia compared his early experience with the Lakers to his time in Memphis and Sacramento, describing the franchise as something far beyond basketball.
“It’s just like a lot more than anywhere else I’ve been,” LaRavia said. “I’ve been in Memphis, Sacramento and the Lakers, it’s a basketball team but it’s like a lot bigger than that as well. Obviously it’s a brand, it’s worldwide, there’s a lot more to it than it just being a basketball team. I guess I’m gonna see again when the season starts and then the fans and everything like that, but I’m excited for it.”
The forward signed a two-year, $12 million deal with Los Angeles on July 6 after splitting last season between the Grizzlies and Kings. Known for his perimeter shooting and defensive energy, LaRavia provides depth on the wing for a Lakers roster led by Luka Doncic and LeBron James.
During the 2024–25 season, LaRavia averaged 6.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 37.1% from three-point range across his two stops.
Now, the challenge for LaRavia shifts toward carving out a role under head coach JJ Redick. The Lakers enter the upcoming season with heightened expectations following a busy offseason that included the additions of Marcus Smart, Deandre Ayton, and several promising young pieces.
