Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant will be re-evaluated in two weeks after suffering a Grade 1 right calf strain, NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Monday. The injury occurred during Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, forcing Morant to exit midway through the first quarter.
Morant had just returned from missing Wednesday’s matchup in Boston with an ankle injury, playing only six minutes in Cleveland and posting seven points and two assists. Observers noted he was “jogging gingerly” before leaving the court, highlighting lingering mobility concerns.
Vince Williams Jr. assumed point guard duties after Morant left the game, briefly exiting himself with an ankle issue before returning later. Memphis’ backcourt depth is thin, with Ty Jerome sidelined due to a right calf strain and Scotty Pippen Jr. recovering from toe surgery.
The Grizzlies are currently 4-10 this season, struggling with consistency while integrating a patchwork rotation. Morant Jaren Jackson Jr. lead the team with 17.9 points per game each, while rookie Cedric Coward contributes 14.0 points, and Zach Edey adds 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds.
Memphis’ recent schedule has been challenging, including losses to Boston (95-131) and Cleveland (100-108), where Morant’s limited availability has affected offensive flow. The team also faces the San Antonio Spurs tonight.
