Isaac Bonga: Little things like rebounds win games

Even though Dennis Schroder was named MVP of FIBA EuroBasket 2025, Germany’s success wouldn’t have been complete without the standout performance of Isaac Bonga.

The 25-year-old forward earned TCL Player of the Game honors in the gold-medal clash against Turkiye, finishing with 20 points on a perfect 4-of-4 from three, along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

When asked if he considers himself one of the most underrated forwards, Bonga remained modest.

“This is something that you guys can discuss. For me, the best thing is that we won this game,” he said.

“The only thing I have to say is that we are World Champions and EuroBasket Champions. I think it kind of speaks for itself,” the Partizan Belgrade all-arounder continued, emphasizing the significance of the team’s triumph over individual accolades.

Bonga also displayed his trademark defensive intensity and shooting accuracy, and he secured a crucial offensive rebound in the closing moments of the game.

“It just shows that the little things, like a rebound, can change the whole game and win games, so I’m just happy that I got this rebound. I’m just happy that we won,” he remarked, highlighting the impact of small, decisive plays.

In the mixed zone, Bonga was asked whether Dennis Schroder deserves a place in the FIBA Hall of Fame, echoing the sentiment expressed earlier by Maodo Lo.

“100%. He’s a champion, the leader of the World Champion team, and the leader of the EuroBasket Champion team. For us in Germany, it is something that has never happened before. That kind of speaks for itself,” Bonga said, underlining Schroder’s historic contribution to German basketball.
