Ireland book place in World final

Ireland have booked their place in the final of the 4×400 metre mixed relay at the World Athletics Relays in China.

The team of Conor Kelly, Sharlene Mawdsley, Rhasidat Adeleke and Cillin Greene finished second in their heats to make tomorrow’s decider in Guangzhou

Their time of 3:12.56 was also enough to qualify the team for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo later this year.

The women’s relay team will get a second chance to qualify for the Championships in tomorrow’s second round after finishing third in the third heat of the female only event.

The team of Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, Lauren Cadden and Rachel McCann finished in a season’s best time of 3:30.06.

The men’s squad of Marcus Lawler, Jack Raftery, Callum Baird and Chris O’Donnell finished 6th in their heat but will get a chance to qualify tomorrow.
