The Charlotte Hornets created an open roster spot by waiving Malaki Branham. He was moved at last week’s trade deadline.
Washington originally planned to send him to Dallas as part of the eight-player Anthony Davis trade, but the deal was later expanded, with the Mavericks redirecting Branham to Charlotte in a swap involving Tyus Jones.
He played a minimal role with the Wizards this season, appearing in 28 games off the bench and averaging 4.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game while shooting .473 from the field, .378 from three, and .824 at the free-throw line.
Branham is in the final year of his rookie contract and is owed a guaranteed $4,962,033, meaning Charlotte remains responsible for the remainder of that salary.
Originally selected 20th overall by San Antonio in the 2022 draft following a strong freshman campaign at Ohio State, Branham was a part-time starter during his first two seasons with the Spurs.
However, he fell out of the rotation last year and was traded to Washington in July.
