Guerschon Yabusele says he doesn’t understand why some Knicks fans have fixated on his weight, writes Stefan Bondy of The New York Post. The veteran forward, who signed with New York over the summer, insists he hasn’t gained anything since his time with Philadelphia.
“About this, because I heard it, and I could if I wanted to talk about it, but I just decided not to,” he said. “People say whatever they want to say. If you guys check with my weight from last year, it’s the same. So last year it wasn’t a problem, why is it a problem this year? And I’m actually less than last year.”
The Knicks currently list Yabusele at 283 pounds, making him one of the heaviest players in the league. Bondy notes that some websites wrongly listed him at 265 pounds last season, even though the Sixers’ official media guide had him at 279.
The scrutiny likely stems from his drop in production. Yabusele is averaging 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.5 minutes per game, and his .349/.276/.500 shooting line is well below what he posted during his return to the NBA last year.
Yabusele says he’s ignoring the outside noise.
“I’m not focusing on none of that. I’m just doing my thing,” he said. “I feel good and in great shape. So it is what it is.”
