Franz Wagner’s hot hand fuels Magic’s preseason rout of Heat

Orlando improved to 3-0 in the preseason with a 120-104 victory over Miami at Kia Center on Sunday night. The Heat dropped to 0-4.

The Magic grabbed a 37-32 lead after the first quarter. Franz Wagner scored seven points with two free throws and a layup.

Wendell Carter Jr. added 10 points on perfect 5-of-8 shooting. Kel’el Ware led Miami with eight points and two steals.

Orlando extended the advantage to 62-55 at halftime after outscoring the Heat 25-23 in the second. Wagner drained a three-pointer to cap a 14-6 run.

Jaime Jaquez Jr. tallied nine points for Miami. Tyler Herro and Terry Rozier sat out due to coach’s decision.

The third quarter saw the Magic pull away with a 29-22 edge for a 91-77 lead. Wagner reached 17 points total, including a pullup jumper.

Carter Jr. finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Ware erupted for 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including a three.

Miami mounted a 27-point fourth-quarter rally but fell short at 120-104. Jahlil Okafor did not play for the Heat.

Wagner paced Orlando with 17 points on 3-of-8 shooting. Tristan da Silva added 11 points and seven rebounds.

For Miami, Ware topped scorers with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jaquez Jr. contributed 14 points and two steals.

Orlando forced 15 Heat turnovers for 27 points. The Magic’s bench scored 72 points to Miami’s 51.
