Brydon Carse has again been left out of the England squad for the third Test against Pakistan with the Cricket Regulator continuing to investigate an incident at a Derby nightclub.
Carse was stood down ahead of the second Test having been arrested and then de-arrested on the Saturday before it began after featuring for Durham in a County Championship win.
Derbyshire Police later confirmed that it was looking into an allegation of assault on the night in question. It is not know what, if any, involvement Carse had in any alleged incident.
The seam bowler featured for his county last week but is not playing against Northamptonshire this due to “pre-arranged workload management with the ECB”.
Sonny Baker was called up to the England squad as a replacement and retains his place as seam bowling cover alongside Sam Cook, though Matthew Fisher has been released from the group.
Ollie Pope continues as the spare batter and Shoaib Bashir is kept as a specialist spin option, though interim head coach Marcus Trescothick hinted after securing the series at Lord’s that an unchanged team was a possibility at Edgbaston.
““First and foremost I want to win the series 3-0 and I think if you’re going to do that you want to play the most consistent team possible,” he said.
“Hopefully they will pull up like they did coming into this game, really well. Once we know that then we’ll be able to make that decision, but the emphasis is massively on winning the series 3-0.
“It’s not a case of we’re going to go there and ease off the gas. We want to go there and win the series 3-0 so that is what exactly what I’ll be telling the players.”
