Anthony Edwards erupted for 37 points and Julius Randle added 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists as the Minnesota Timberwolves dominated the Utah Jazz 137-97 on Friday night at Target Center. The Timberwolves improved to 4-5 overall while snapping the Jazz’s early-season momentum.
Edwards, returning from a four-game absence with a hamstring strain, shot 7 for 12 from three-point range and scored 14 points in the first quarter alone, helping Minnesota race to a 43-15 lead. Randle nearly had a triple-double in the first half, finishing just one rebound shy, and recorded his second triple-double of the week.
Jaden McDaniels contributed 22 points and seven rebounds as Minnesota shot a season-high 56.8% from the field. The Timberwolves’ balanced attack allowed them to build a 79-45 halftime advantage and maintain control throughout the second half.
Keyonte George led Utah with 18 points, and Lauri Markkanen added 12, but the Jazz struggled with efficiency, shooting just 37.2% from the floor. Isaiah Collier made his season debut after missing eight games with a hamstring injury.
Edwards’ quick start set the tone, hitting two three-pointers and a step-back jumper in the first 90 seconds. Minnesota’s defense and fast-paced offense prevented the Jazz from closing the gap, extending the Timberwolves’ lead to 40 points in the blowout.
This marked Minnesota’s first NBA Cup game, while Utah fell to 0-2 in the competition. Both teams are in Western Conference Group A, alongside Phoenix, Oklahoma City, and Sacramento.
The Timberwolves will face Sacramento on Sunday before a rematch against the Jazz in Utah on Monday, while Utah hosts Minnesota again on Monday night.
