Dyson Daniels, the reigning NBA Most Improved Player and All-Defensive First Team selection, is pursuing a five-year, $150 million contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks, league sources told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

The Hawks, however, have reportedly been closer to a five-year, $115 million range in negotiations, reflecting caution over Daniels’ shooting inconsistencies and limited playoff experience.

Acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans in July 2024, the 6-foot-7 Australian guard-forward quickly earned a starting role with Atlanta. In the 2024–25 season, he averaged 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists over 76 games, showcasing versatility on both ends of the floor.

Daniels also led the league in steals and emerged as a key defensive contributor, earning recognition for his two-way impact. Despite this, the Hawks reportedly want to evaluate his consistency in high-pressure playoff situations before committing to a large extension.

The 22-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie-scale deal after Atlanta exercised his 2025–26 team option. Negotiations are ongoing, with both sides maintaining dialogue but no deal expected imminently, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

Atlanta’s roster includes veterans like Trae Young, Kristaps Porzingis, and Onyeka Okongwu, along with emerging talents, making Daniels’ contract a critical factor in future cap planning and roster construction.

Daniels’ representatives have emphasized his rapid development and defensive prowess as justification for the $150 million figure, while the Hawks remain measured, balancing salary commitments with long-term team flexibility.
