San Antonio Spurs rookie Dylan Harper will miss time after an MRI confirmed a left calf strain, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

The 19-year-old guard is expected to be out multiple weeks, though the team said he avoided ligament damage and will be re-evaluated in about a week.

Harper sustained the injury during Sunday’s 130–118 loss to the Phoenix Suns when he tried to contest a dunk by Nick Richards. He left the game in the second quarter and was later seen using crutches and wearing a walking boot.

“I believe it’s something with this calf, but I don’t have anything as of yet,” head coach Mitch Johnson said after the game.

Before the setback, Harper was off to a strong start, averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game on .500 shooting. He had scored 12 points in just 11 minutes before exiting Sunday’s contest.

Teammate Victor Wembanyama expressed support after the game, saying, “We’ve seen great things from him. It’s actually been hard to believe how good he’s played. But it happens. We have to be able to deal with injuries.”

The Spurs, who have started 5–1, are already managing several other injuries, including De’Aaron Fox (hamstring) and Jeremy Sochan (calf).

Johnson said the team remains optimistic about getting some players back soon, possibly before Wednesday’s game against the Lakers.
