Dingle qualify for County Senior football final; decider confirmed for Tralee

Dingle have progressed to the final of the Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Football Championship.


In Austin Stack Park they beat Mid Kerry 1-16 to 0-16.

Mid Kerry had the opening 2 points of the game, the second of them in the 11th minute. Dingle, able to call on the services of Mark O’Connor, responded with their opening point but a Sean O’Brien 2 pointer extended the Mid Kerry advantage to 4 points to 1. Ciaran Kennedy then made it 5-1, after 13 minutes. Mid Kerry led 6 to 2 after quarter of an hour. A dominant Mid Kerry extended their advantage to 6 and but for missed chances could have been further in front. Back to back Dingle points cut the gap to 4 and then a Conor Geaney goal meant the Westerners were only 1 down after 24 minutes; 0-8 to 1-4. Tom Leo O’Sullivan brought Dingle level. On the hooter Dylan Geaney pointed Dingle in front at 1-6 to 0-8.


Dingle led 1-9 to 9 points seven minutes into the second period. A Conor Geaney 2 pointer put them 5 clear. By the 3/4 stage Mid Kerry had got it back to a 3 point game at 1-11 to 0-11. However, a Dingle two pointer by Niall Geaney meant Mid Kerry then trailed by 5. After 51 minutes Dingle were ahead by 1-13 to 0-13. Again Dingle responded, a Conor Geaney 2 pointer putting them 5 to the good 6 minutes from the end. Tom O’Sullivan pointed Dingle 6 clear. Mid Kerry halved the deficit by the 58 minute mark. Mid Kerry’s had no luck with their late efforts to find an equalising goal.
