Derek Fisher doesn’t expect a Ja Morant trade before next week’s deadline, but says it would be a major moment if it happens.

Speaking with TMZ Sports at LAX, Fisher addressed the speculation surrounding the Memphis Grizzlies star and acknowledged that there’s no clear landing spot if a deal were to materialize.

Former Laker emphasized that being traded is a reality even for elite players, noting that many greats have gone through it and describing the experience as emotionally difficult.

“So many great players in the history of our game have been traded before,” he said, calling it “traumatic.”

He added that change can sometimes be positive, suggesting a fresh start may present new challenges and opportunities.

“Sometimes change is needed or required and it might not be a bad thing,” Fisher said. “Sometimes you need a change of scenery and new challenges put forth.”

He also pointed out that teams have far more information than fans when evaluating players, weighing both personal and basketball character before making decisions.

“Professional sports teams always do their homework and due diligence,” Fisher said.
