San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox is making steady progress in his recovery from surgery on his left pinkie finger.
The procedure hasn’t dampened his spirits; on the contrary, Fox is energized and eager as he looks ahead to his first full season with the Spurs.
The experienced point guard also has his sights set on a long-term future in San Antonio, ideally secured with a new contract.
When asked how hopeful he is about reaching an extension with the team this summer, Fox responded candidly: “I would definitely hope so,” expressing optimism about securing a new deal.
This offseason, Fox becomes eligible to sign a four-year, $228.6 million extension with the Spurs.
Due to league rules, since he was traded to San Antonio after his rookie-scale deal concluded, he’s restricted to a four-year maximum.
If agreed upon, the extension would begin in the 2026-27 season at a starting salary of $51 million.
As for his recovery, Fox reports that he’s fully healed and already back in action following the procedure on the pinkie of his shooting hand.
“I’m doing well. The surgery went fine,” he said. “I’ve been cleared so I played a little five-on-five and I’ve done contact stuff, so I’ll be ready for next year.”
