Cameron Johnson says conditioning allows competitive return

The Denver Nuggets have been hit hard by injuries throughout the season, and the latest stretch has only added to those challenges.

That’s made small forward Cameron Johnson’s return especially important, as Bennett Durando of the Denver Post notes.

Johnson returned to action last Saturday against Chicago, his first game since December 23, and scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

With Peyton Watson expected to miss at least a month, Aaron Gordon sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring injury, and Spencer Jones still in concussion protocol, Denver’s forward depth has become increasingly thin heading into the All-Star break.

Johnson said he feels physically ready as he works his way back into a regular role.

“It’s been a lot of time spent trying to get conditioning back up to where it is, and we track a lot of stuff over the course of (the recovery) to be able to come back and play in the mid to high 20s minutes, instead of having to be a lot lower,” the player said.

“Obviously, with any situation, you come back and just try to feel your best. Sometimes, it’s not all the way 100. But I feel good enough to definitely go out there and compete.”

Johnson has played 7 seasons for the Suns, Nets, and Nuggets. He has averaged 12.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 371 regular-season games.
