Cade Cunningham has emerged as one of the NBA’s most dominant late-game performers, powering the Detroit Pistons to a strong 6-2 start.
Through those eight games, he has totaled 86 points in fourth quarters alone – the most of any player in the league.
In his last two outings, Cunningham poured in 19 points during each final frame, including in Detroit’s 114-103 win over Utah on Wednesday night.
Speaking about the team’s early-season turnaround, Cunningham reflected on the Pistons’ growth mindset.
“We’re just now turning the corner as far as just not being losers,” he said, according to Hunter Patterson of The Athletic.
“We were losers for a little stint in the NBA. But we all have winning habits, winning mentalities. We’re just starting to get our feet wet as far as learning winning basketball.”
Second-year head coach J.B. Bickerstaff was quick to praise his young star’s leadership and maturity.
“He’s phenomenal,” Bickerstaff said. “He’s an unbelievable player, unbelievable person. Great teammate, great leader. Everything you want in a No. 1 guy, Cade is it.”
