Brydon Carse has been dropped from the England squad for the second Test against Pakistan cricket after being handcuffed by police outside of a nightclub.
Seam bowler Carse is under investigation by the Cricket Regulator after an incident that followed Durham’s County Championship win over Derbyshire.
The 31-year-old had been permitted to feature for his county having not been included in England’s XI for the first Test at Headingley, and has now been replaced in a 16-man group by Sonny Baker.
The Durham bowler has not featured for England in Test cricket since the end of the Ashes, missing the series defeat to New Zealand after sustaining a hand injury in training.
“Following a referral from the ECB, the Cricket Regulator have confirmed that they will investigate events on Saturday night in Derby,” an ECB statement said.
“Brydon Carse will no longer be available for selection for the Second Men’s Rothesay Test Match while this investigation is ongoing and the full facts are obtained. Brydon will be replaced in the squad for this match by Sonny Baker.”
He had been unlikely to appear at Lord’s with England likely to stick with the four-pronged seam attack that dismantled Pakistan in Leeds last week.
Sam Cook and Matthew Fisher remain in the squad alongside Baker as fast-bowling cover behind Jofra Archer, Ollie Robinson, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue.
The Carse incident has prompted renewed scrutiny on England after a series of alcohol-related events in recent months.
Stokes and Atkinson were involved in an incident in a nightclub in Chelsea following Test victory over New Zealand at Lord’s earlier in the summer, while Harry Brook was fined after being struck by a bouncer in Wellington the day before captaining England in a one-day international (ODI) against the same opposition.
The second Test is set to begin on Thursday.
