Jaylen Brown and Derrick White powered the Boston Celtics to a 117-114 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night at TD Garden, ending Detroit’s franchise-record-tying 13-game winning streak.
Brown finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds, while White scored 27 points, including 11 in the final 4½ minutes, helping Boston withstand Cade Cunningham’s 42-point performance.
The game remained tight throughout, with multiple lead changes, before Boston executed down the stretch, including key free throws from Payton Pritchard in the final 2.4 seconds, securing the win.
Pritchard added 16 points and grabbed a critical offensive rebound on Cunningham’s final shot attempt, preventing Detroit from forcing overtime.
Detroit led by as many as 12 in the third quarter, but the Celtics rallied with a combination of perimeter shooting and aggressive drives, eventually outscoring the Pistons 31-31 in the fourth quarter to reclaim control.
Cunningham also contributed eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals, but Detroit’s turnovers proved costly, finishing with 21 compared to Boston’s 12.
Tobias Harris added 12 points for Detroit, while Jalen Duren posted 12 points and 16 rebounds, yet the Pistons couldn’t find a late-game answer to Boston’s timely offense.
Boston shot 47% from three-point range, hitting 20-of-43, and converted 88% of free throws, providing the edge needed to overcome Detroit’s efficient 40% shooting and 81% free-throw performance.
The win marks Boston’s fifth victory in six games, improving their record to 10-8, while Detroit falls to 15-3, still leading the Eastern Conference but now unable to tie the franchise consecutive-win record.
Boston will travel to face Minnesota on Saturday, aiming to extend their momentum, while Detroit hosts Orlando in an NBA Cup game on Friday.
