Bradley Beal trade complicated; buyout highly unlikely

The Phoenix Suns are reportedly still weighing potential trade scenarios involving veteran guard Bradley Beal.

However, as was the case last season, the presence of Beal’s no-trade clause remains a significant obstacle.

This clause gives Beal the power to veto any deal, making it more difficult for the Suns’ front office to finalize a trade that both the team and the player would find mutually agreeable.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding Beal’s future with the team, the Suns factored him into their decision-making process while searching for a new head coach.

During interviews with coaching candidates, team officials specifically inquired how each candidate envisioned utilizing Beal, in the event he remained on the roster moving forward.

The franchise ultimately settled on Jordan Ott, who is set to be officially introduced as the new head coach on Tuesday.

Ott will now be tasked with the challenge of figuring out how to integrate Beal into the team’s system best, assuming the guard isn’t moved this offseason.

A buyout of Beal’s contract is seen as improbable at this stage. For such a scenario to take place, Beal would have to agree to forfeit a significant portion of the money he is still owed.

The Suns would only be able to use the waiver-and-stretch provision on Beal’s contract if he agrees to relinquish a large amount of his guaranteed salary.

Currently, Beal is owed approximately $111 million over the next two seasons, including $53.6 million for the upcoming year and a $57.8 million player option for the 2026–27 season.

Given the scale of those figures, a buyout appears financially unfeasible unless Beal is willing to make major concessions.
