With the Mavericks firing Nico Harrison and uncertainty surrounding Anthony Davis’ future, a major three-team trade proposal links the All-Star big man to the Knicks—especially after Jalen Brunson’s injury update.

The Dallas Mavericks are facing a critical crossroads following the firing of Nico Harrison, and uncertainty now hangs over the long-term direction of the franchise. Conflicting reports regarding the future of Anthony Davis have intensified speculation, and the possibility of a blockbuster trade is becoming increasingly realistic. In this scenario, the New York Knicks could emerge as a surprising and aggressive bidder for the former NBA champion.

In a recent piece for Bleacher ReportEric Pincus outlined a dramatic three-team trade concept that would send Davis to New York in what could be one of the most significant moves in recent franchise history. While it may seem unlikely for the Knicks to overhaul a roster that had been building steady momentum, the latest update on Jalen Brunson’s legitimate ankle injury could force the front office to consider bold alternatives.

Pincus described the Mavericks’ situation succinctly:
“The question for interim leaders Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi is: Now what? Do they try to improve the squad for a postseason run or start a proper rebuild around 18-year-old rookie Cooper Flagg?”

He explained that his proposed trade — involving the Knicks and Brooklyn Nets — could serve as the Mavericks’ first step toward a new direction and identity, especially if they decide to reset around their young cornerstone.

Despite missing a number of games this season, Anthony Davis remains one of the most dominant two-way big men in the league when healthy. Through five appearances, the 32-year-old is averaging 20.8 points10.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, shooting 52% from the field — production that would immediately elevate New York’s frontcourt.

The Knicks now find themselves in a precarious position: continue building around Brunson and their current core, or seize the opportunity to acquire a superstar whose presence could redefine their competitive ceiling.
