Moda Center, the long-standing home of the Portland Trail Blazers, may soon undergo significant upgrades.
Momentum for the renovation project increased Monday when a bill was introduced in the Oregon State Senate aimed at securing public funding.
The proposal has garnered broad backing from state officials, including Gov. Tina Kotek, according to Bill Oram of The Oregonian.
The legislation is scheduled to move to the Senate Committee on Rules, with its initial hearing set for Wednesday morning.
However, questions remain about what the future holds for the franchise.
Even if the arena receives upgrades, or if the team’s anticipated ownership transition moves forward, it’s unclear whether those developments would guarantee the Blazers’ long-term stability in Portland.
In his analysis for The Oregonian, Oram expressed uncertainty about whether the NBA truly views Portland as a top-tier market.
He also raised doubts about whether local leadership places a high enough priority on professional sports to commit the level of financial support that might ultimately be required.
