Barnes leads Raptors past Trail Blazers in tight finish

Scottie Barnes delivered 28 points as the Toronto Raptors held off the Portland Trail Blazers 121-118 on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena.

Toronto improved to 15-7 after snapping a two-game skid, while Portland fell to 8-13 despite a near triple-double from Deni Avdija.

Barnes shot 10-for-18 from the field and added seven rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. His all-around production anchored a Raptors group that shot 53% overall and controlled key stretches of the game.

Immanuel Quickley scored 23 points with eight assists, providing steady playmaking in the absence of RJ Barrett, who missed another game with a sprained right knee. Brandon Ingram added 21 points and four rebounds.

Portland leaned heavily on Avdija, who finished with 25 points, 14 assists and eight boards while going 10-for-15 at the line. Toumani Camara supplied 21 points and seven rebounds, and Shaedon Sharpe gave the Blazers 23 off the bench in his return to his home province.

The early pace favored Portland, which opened the night with a 39-point first quarter behind Jerami Grant’s perimeter shooting and Avdija’s facilitating. Toronto responded with a 28-point second frame and tightened its defense to reclaim momentum.

A Quickley three-pointer early in the second sparked a 16-3 run that pushed the Raptors ahead 53-43 with 8:09 left before halftime. Barnes controlled the mid-game minutes, using his size advantage inside and creating mismatches on switches.

Portland stayed close throughout the final stretch. Sharpe’s free throws trimmed the deficit to 117-115 with 1:18 to play.

Ingram answered with a driving dunk on the next trip and later added two free throws, giving Toronto the cushion it needed to close out the win.

The Raptors overcame 18 turnovers by matching Portland’s shot-making late and limiting second-chance looks.

Toronto’s bench delivered 33 points, with Gradey Dick scoring 14 on 6-for-8 shooting. Sandro Mamukelashvili chipped in six points and seven rebounds while providing activity on the glass.

Portland shot 49% from the floor and 38% from deep, leaning on its balanced scoring but struggling to generate stops in key moments. The Blazers finished with 39 rebounds, including 11 from Donovan Clingan, who added 11 points.

Toronto outrebounded Portland 43-39 and finished the night with 33 assists, consistent with the team’s ball-sharing approach this season. Barnes and Quickley combined for 15 assists, stabilizing the offense when Portland pressed late.

The Raptors continue their homestand Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers. Portland travels to Cleveland for the second leg of its back-to-back on Wednesday.
