Terry Rozier’s teammates and coaches are standing by him in the wake of his arrest, with Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and star forward Bam Adebayo both expressing their support on Friday.
Speaking to reporters just a day after Rozier was taken into federal custody on gambling-related charges, Spoelstra said he couldn’t comment on the ongoing legal case but wanted to make it clear that the player remains valued and respected within the organization.
“He’s had a real positive impact on our locker room and the staff and players alike, and that includes last year when he wasn’t in the rotation often times,” Spoelstra said. “You send our thoughts and care for him as he goes through this.”
Adebayo echoed that sentiment, emphasizing that Rozier is more than just a teammate to him.
“That’s our brother at the end of the day,” Adebayo said. “Felt kinda weird him not being here actually, ’cause he’s usually the first person I get to talk to.”
Rozier, who joined the Heat in 2024, was arrested Thursday alongside Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups as part of a sweeping federal gambling investigation. Both were placed on immediate leave by the NBA.
Prosecutors allege that Rozier shared insider information with acquaintances, allowing them to place winning bets on his performance while he was still a member of the Charlotte Hornets.
