Austin Reaves highlighted the impact of LeBron James’ return in the Lakers’ 140-126 victory over the Utah Jazz at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday.
“Yeah, I mean I think he had 12 assists, one turnover… he plays the game the right way,” Reaves said, noting James’ effectiveness despite missing the first 14 games of the season.
Reaves contributed 26 points as the Lakers erased a halftime deficit with a 21-5 third-quarter run, led by Luka Doncic’s 17 points in the period. “We have two of the best passers to ever touch a basketball… making the right read 90% of the time, you’re going to play advantage basketball,” Reaves said.
He credited the team’s composure for the turnaround. “Keyonte George was hot in the first half… we just stuck to what we planned to do and adjusted a couple things here and there,” Reaves explained.
The Lakers improved to 11-4, combining for 17 assists from James and Doncic, shooting 60 percent in the second half, and outrebounding Utah 41-35. Reaves emphasized the ease of offense with James and Doncic directing the floor. “It looked pretty good tonight… we’re going to continue to grow in those aspects,” he said.
Reaves also highlighted the energy and rhythm LeBron brought to the game. “He looked good getting up and down the floor… trying to get his lungs back,” Reaves noted, underscoring James’ ability to contribute immediately after a long layoff.
The Lakers exploited mismatches and floor spacing. Reaves credited the team’s defensive adjustments and focus on game plan execution for holding Utah to 55 points in the second half.
Looking ahead, the Lakers aim to continue building chemistry and capitalize on their offensive firepower. Reaves stressed patience and focus in developing offensive fluidity. “Just finding the right area, getting the ball in the right spot… that’s going to help us moving forward,” he said.
Los Angeles returns to Utah for a rematch on Sunday, while the Jazz host the Thunder on Friday, hoping to regroup after losing five of seven games.
