Mavericks big man Anthony Davis participated in Wednesday’s practice and is expected to be listed as questionable for Friday’s game against the Lakers, per Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News. Davis has been out since October 29 with a left calf strain.
Dallas will play a back-to-back in Los Angeles – the Lakers on Friday and the Clippers on Saturday – and Davis won’t be cleared for both after missing 14 straight games. The team will see how he responds on Thursday before deciding which game he’ll play.
When asked which matchup he preferred, Davis made his feelings obvious.
“That’s a real question?” he said with a smile. “You know what game I want to play. But we’ll see. We’ll have a conversation and see what makes the most sense with the medical staff and the coaching staff.”
The center hasn’t yet played at Crypto.com Arena as a Maverick after being traded from the Lakers in February.
Davis originally hoped to return sooner, but governor Patrick Dumont reportedly pushed for a cautious approach to avoid a setback.
The Mavericks have struggled badly without him, losing 11 of their last 14 to fall to 5–14. They’ve also been without Kyrie Irving, Dante Exum and Dereck Lively II due to injuries.
