TalkSport host Alan Brazil has revealed he recently underwent a “life-saving operation” and is now in recovery. The former Scotland and Ipswich striker, 66, has been off air for several weeks and issued the health update on social media on Monday morning.
“Some of you will have noticed that I’ve not been around,” he said. “I recently had a life-saving operation and I’m deeply grateful to the brilliant medical team who have looked after me.
“It will be some time yet before I’m fully back to myself and for now I am focused on my recovery in private. Thank you to my family and those close to me who’ve been supporting me / putting up with me! I’ll see you all soon.”
Brazil has presented various shows on TalkSport since the station was launched in 2000. Former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling read out Brazil’s message on this morning’s Breakfast Show. “Great to hear from Big Al on the news there,” Stelling said.
Brazil made 13 appearances for Scotland and scored 76 goals for Ipswich in a six-year spell at Portman Road between 1977 and 1983, winning the FA Cup in 1978 and Uefa Cup in 1981.
