Joe Dumars, who recently accepted the role of president of basketball operations with the New Orleans Pelicans, leaves behind a respected legacy from his previous position as the NBA’s executive vice president and head of basketball operations.
Dumars held that post for the past three years, working closely with league officials and teams to help shape on-court policy and uphold the integrity of the game.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver expressed his appreciation for New Orleans’ top executive’s contributions in a statement shared by The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Silver highlighted both Dumars’ deep roots in the game and his character, praising the impact he made during his time at the league office.
“Joe brought tremendous credibility to his role at the league office and is one of the most genuine and respected people in all of basketball,” Silver said.
“His exceptional playing career and tenure as an executive provided him with an elite understanding of the game and strong relationships around the NBA. We are grateful for Joe’s leadership over the past three years and wish him well as he begins his new role with the Pelicans.”
Dumars’ move brings valuable experience to the Pelicans, both as a Hall of Fame player and a championship executive.
