The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Jahmir Young to an Exhibit 10 contract and waived Cole Swider in a corresponding move ahead of their preseason finale against the Denver Nuggets on Friday.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported the transactions on Wednesday, October 14, citing the team. The Lakers are 2-2 in preseason play as they continue finalizing their roster before the start of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Young joins Los Angeles after spending the 2025-26 season with the Miami Heat and their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The 26-year-old guard appeared in 14 NBA games for Miami, averaging 1.8 points and 0.6 assists in 4.2 minutes per contest.
He was considerably more productive in the G League, averaging 25.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 8.5 assists in 31 appearances for Sioux Falls. Young shot 46.2% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range, establishing himself as a productive scorer and playmaker at that level.
Young previously played for the Chicago Bulls, appearing in six NBA games during the 2024-25 season. He went undrafted in 2023 after a five-year college career that included three seasons at Charlotte and two at Maryland.
His final college season was his most productive. Young averaged 21.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 33 games for Maryland in 2023-24, shooting 41.4% from the field and 31.8% from three-point range.

The Exhibit 10 contract gives the Lakers an opportunity to evaluate Young as they complete their preseason preparations. Such contracts can also provide a pathway to a team’s G League affiliate, depending on the player’s subsequent roster status and contract arrangements.
Swider, meanwhile, exits after signing with Los Angeles on September 27. The forward had been among the Lakers’ late offseason additions as the franchise continued assembling its roster around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves following LeBron James’ departure to the Philadelphia 76ers.
