The Washington Wizards have signed guard Jordan Schakel to a training camp deal, HoopsHype reported.
Schakel returns to the organization after previously spending parts of three seasons with the Wizards and their G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go. His familiarity with the franchise and experience in the G League give Washington an experienced option as it prepares for the 2026-27 season.
The 28-year-old went undrafted in 2021 after four seasons at San Diego State. He steadily increased his production with the Aztecs, averaging 14.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in his senior season while shooting 46.1% from three-point range.
That shooting ability has been a consistent part of Schakel’s profile. He shot at least 40% from three in three of his four college seasons, including 46.1% in 2020-21.
Schakel began his professional career with the Capital City Go-Go in 2021-22, averaging 13.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 46 games while shooting 36.0% from three. He also appeared in four NBA games for Washington that season.
He returned to the Wizards for two games in 2022-23 and spent that season between the Capital City Go-Go and Santa Cruz Warriors. Across 49 G League games, he averaged 12.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 38.6% from three.
Schakel subsequently played for the Maine Celtics for two seasons. He averaged 13.1 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 41.1% from three in 23 games in 2023-24 before recording 8.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 44 games the following season.
The guard spent the 2025-26 season overseas, appearing for Filou Oostende in Belgium and Niners Chemnitz in Germany. He averaged 10.0 points in nine BNXT League games for Oostende, shooting 39.2% from three, before averaging 2.4 points in 17 German league appearances with Chemnitz.
Schakel now joins a Wizards roster undergoing a major transition after Washington finished 17-65 in 2025-26. The organization won the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and selected AJ Dybantsa, while also building around Trae Young and Anthony Davis.
Young signed a four-year, $212.8 million extension in July after arriving from Atlanta in January. Davis, meanwhile, was acquired from Dallas at the February trade deadline and remains one of the central pieces of Washington’s new-look roster.
The Wizards also added Deandre Ayton during the offseason and acquired Tre Mann in an August multi-team trade. Schakel will now compete for a roster opportunity during training camp as Washington continues to fill out its supporting cast around Young, Davis and Dybantsa.
